District Governor Elect. David Hartley
David first joined Rotary in 1997 when he hosted the then President of Southport Rotary at the Samaritans AGM. President Royston asked if David had ever considered joining Rotary at which he laughed. As with many outside Rotary, David’s initial thoughts of Rotary was of ROMEO’s, Rich Old Men Eating Out. Undeterred he attended his first of the three introductory meetings and was warmly welcomed by the majority. Within three months of joining David was Chair of Community with a cast of 26 members of Southport Club on the committee.
He has served on most committees since prior to moving to Burnley Pendleside where, because of work commitments he took a back seat.
Upon returning to Southport he was asked to join Southport Meols, eventually becoming President in 2014/15, the same year as the late PDG Les Wilson. It was Les who championed David into becoming an Assistant Governor and the rest as they say is history.
David originates from Whitworth, a village near Rochdale. He and Yvonne have owned Post Offices since 2000. Prior to this David worked in retail. His claim to fame is, with his sales background, at their first Post Office they increased their shop takings by over 700% in just five years.
Yvonne met David when they were members of Southport Fell Walkers, something they’d love to do if only they had more time. In 2000 they walked the Coast to Coast in 11 days. They celebrated their Silver Wedding in March of this year. She joined Rotary five years ago, they are currently members of Maghull & Aughton Rotary.
Yvonne originates from West Kirby on the Wirral. Prior to Post Office she was manager of various Doctors Surgeries. Yvonne’s passion is animals, especially her dogs Finn the Westie and Rita the American Cocker. Between them, Yvonne and David have five children and seven grandchildren.
